1920’s Art Deco Shoe Store Fluoroscope X-ray Shoe Fitter Machine

Description:

1930’s Art Deco shoe store fluoroscope x-ray machine in as found condition. X-ray shoe fitting machines, as they were commonly called, were a fixture in American shoe stores during the 1920’s to 1970’s, when growing awareness of radiation hazards and increasing regulation forced their gradual phasing out. A child or adult would place their feet in the opening while standing upright to look down at the x-ray view  of the feet and shoe. Two portholes on either side enabled the sales person or someone else to observe the toes being wiggled to show how much room was inside the shoe. Nice example but the back door is missing as well as a rod to view from side to side…………
